The History of ORP "Błyskawica"
ORP "Błyskawica" is one of two Polish Grom-class destroyers that entered service with the Polish Navy in 1937. She participated in World War II operations from the very first days of combat in Europe until the very last.
Her operational areas included the Atlantic, the North Sea and the Mediterranean. She took part in the Norwegian Campaign, the Dunkirk evacuation, the Battle of the Atlantic, and Operations "Torch," "Overlord," and "Deadlight." During her service with the Royal Navy she underwent a modernization aimed at reducing weight and improving stability in the Atlantic. At that time, the black tactical number "H34"—by which the ship was identified during wartime operations—was painted on her hull. On one of the gun turrets, a gunnery clock—used for fire control and visible on the model—has been preserved.
During her service in Great Britain one of her anchors was damaged. It was replaced with a British-issue anchor, adapted to fit the ship's structure. These differing anchors have been faithfully recreated in the model using printed graphics. After the war, ORP Błyskawica returned to Poland and served as the flagship of the Polish Navy. The ship was brought home by Commander Bolesław Romanowski—a figure of exceptional merit to the Polish Navy—who had previously commanded vessels such as the submarine ORP Dzik.
Subsequently, Błyskawica served as a training vessel for successive generations of sailors. Since 1976, she has been moored in Gdynia, serving as a museum ship and a ceremonial vessel of the Polish Navy. To this day she remains the oldest preserved destroyer in the world.

Fun build love the way it came out this was my first Ship build would definitely give 10/10 Use to see the real one almost everyday but it’s been in drydock getting some repairs done and supposed to be back in spring of 2027 can’t wait to go see it again
Overall fantastic build! I have built many of the other sets including warships and KIDD turned out great. Only part I found challenging was putting the parts around the main deck towards the bow together, otherwise great and an excellent display piece!
I haven't built the Kidd kits yet, but the ordering process and website was all smooth as I'd expect. Customer service has been great as well. Have bought quite a few sets and will continue to do so. COBI USA has been fantastic - both quality of the kits and the people. Thank you!
This was a very fun build. Putting it next to a battleship gives you a great sense of scale.
Here's hoping that Cobi can team up with more museums and give us more ships. Need the Alabama, North Carolina and the Texas!
Build Review of the USS Kidd -
First off I just want to say how nice it is to have a ship kit that doesn't take the entire week to build. Not that I don't mind the big ships (I've got I believe all of them at this point) but having one that can just be completed after work in an evening is rather nice.
First off - I love the fact that this ship is to scale with the rest of my fleet. Putting it next to one of the Battleships or even the carriers really shows the size difference between a destroyer and a capital ship. The change from Red to the burnt orange on the hull was also a nice touch.
The three biggest downsides I ran into building the USS Kidd -
1.) The two large bow pieces at the front were frustrating to get correct. the use of a hinged piece was very frustrating, ended up having to use some tweezers to get get everything lined up which I've never had to do before on a Cobi build. Eventually got it to where it needed to be, but I dread those things popping off at some point down the line.
2.) The new base. I don't know if it was just my kit, but the tolerances for the pegs, wheel piece, and cone piece were TIGHT, which is crazy by how wobbly the gun mounts are. First I followed Cobi's build directions but ended up going no where, being unable to push the peg through the wheel and cone pieces while it was in the base. Eventually I had to start with the pegs going through the wheel first, then the cone, some gentle persuasion with a set of pilers to get things lined up, and then attaching the top cap and plugging it into the base. Not sure if that's more of a frustration with the instructions or the design of the base, but those suckers ate up a lot of time and frustration trying to get right.
3.) The Thread. Honestly I thought I was going to hate the thread more than I did. The only part that really sucked was one of the pieces you are supposed to pass through is a really tight fit, and on one side it unraveled part of the end of the thread, which meant it wasn't staying together for some more tight passes down the line, making one side look a little sloppier than the other. Not sure if the lighter trick would have helped here, the biggest change I'd have made to the design would be the final piece that the thread ties to, making it able to tight down afterwards like you can do with the anchor chains on the bigger ships would have been great.
Positives - Again this kit can be done in an evening after work no problem. I really think it would have been great to have it as a 3 pack with 2 other destroyers, but I am happy to finally have a destroyer to go with the rest of my 1:300 ships!
Switching to the burnt orange for the lower hull looks great in my opinion. I know it's a minor change but the red on the rest of the hulls now look so bright in comparison! Aside from my issues with the base, the instructions were straight forward and I really didn't run into any issues. No missing pieces, all in all a good kit. Heck I'd probably by a second one if they had included a 2nd Fletcher class name badge and US Flag.
Now if we can just get some US Cruisers that would be swell... USS Indianapolis would be dope.
I bought this model ship because I’m a WWII history nut. The actual ship is a floating museum in Baton Rouge, LA.
It was the ship used in the movie ‘Greyhound’. This is a great model of an old warship.
I've been looking forward to a Fletcher-class destroyer for a long time. My Dad served on one in the 60's and early 70's and I remember being excited to visit his ship.
Gift was well received and my kid loved putting it together. Even complimented the rigging system, saying it was better designed than other rigging systems.
I found the instructions very hard to follow especially identifying some of the smaller pieces with lack of definition. Having access to online instructions that can be magnified would help. The.process to order missing pieces is cumbersome - taking a picture of a the page and circling the missing page rather than ordering by piece number is not practical. There is quite a bit of glare on each page.
Very ingenious use of small pieces. I hope COBI will do more destroyers in 1/300 scale, like a US 4-piper, British tribal class, and German and Japanese destroyers. These would fill a big hole in fleet compositions.
Like the model very much. Only drawback to construction was the piece to join the two front hull pieces together at bow of ship. It wasn’t to well designed, obviously, just my two cents.

Excellent shipping speed. The build while fun was a challenge. While trying to put on the rigging lines the pieces didn't want to hold. Found a work around though without changing the appearance to much. Overall good build and strudy.
