Information about the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.II

What was the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.II used for?

The history of the Supermarine Spitfire began even before the outbreak of World War II. Designed by Reginald Joseph Mitchell, the fighter quickly became the mainstay of British fighter aviation and a symbol of the Allied victory during the Battle of Britain.

The Spitfire combined:

• excellent maneuverability

• high speed

• modern design

• effectiveness in aerial combat

The Mk.II version was an evolution of the initial production Spitfires and played a significant role in Royal Air Force operations early in the war.

Polish pilots flying in RAF squadrons also flew Spitfires; among them was Ludwik Martel, whose likeness is commemorated in this COBI set.

Distinctive elliptical wings

One of the Spitfire's most recognizable features is its elliptical wings.

Their unique shape ensured excellent aerodynamic properties and superior maneuverability during dogfights.

The COBI model faithfully reproduces the aircraft's distinctive silhouette, making it look incredibly realistic both during assembly and upon completion.

Design details of the COBI Supermarine Spitfire Mk.II brick model

Realistic silhouette of the legendary fighter

When designing the model, COBI designers focused on preserving the key features of the actual aircraft.

The model reproduces:

• distinctive elliptical wings

• fuselage proportions

• historical RAF markings

• the cockpit

• the propeller

• the landing gear

This makes the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.II model impressive both during assembly and as a finished display piece.

Historical Markings

The model features high-quality prints depicting the historical markings of the aircraft flown by Ludwik Martel during his service with RAF No. 603 Squadron (City of Edinburgh Squadron).

Thanks to durable printing, the model faithfully reproduces the appearance of the historical aircraft without the need for stickers.

Moving Parts

The design's realism is enhanced by functional elements:

• a rotating propeller

• movable wheels

• an opening cockpit

These features allow the model to better capture the look and operation of the real aircraft.

Collector's Corner

This COBI model is designed in the popular 1:32 scale.

The 1:32 scale has long been a favorite among aviation model collectors.

This scale ensures the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.II fits perfectly alongside other aircraft and vehicles from the Historical Collection WWII series.

A Fact for Collectors

Over 150 Polish pilots serving in the Royal Air Force flew Supermarine Spitfires. Their achievements during the Battle of Britain and subsequent air campaigns made the Spitfire a symbol of Polish aviation history in the West. The model depicting Ludwik Martel’s aircraft serves as a unique tribute to the contribution of Polish airmen to the Allied victory.

Stylish Display Stand

The model comes with an elegant black stand featuring an information plaque.

A transparent support allows the aircraft to be displayed in a striking pose that simulates flight. This design ensures the model looks excellent:

• on a shelf

• in a display case

• as part of a collection of historical aircraft models

No stickers—only durable prints

On COBI models, key markings are applied as durable prints.

This approach ensures:

• superior aesthetics

• resistance to wear

• a lasting appearance over the years

• an easier assembly process

It was great! Just some parts of the model I don’t really like. For example the mini fig would. Not properly go in so I had to remove the legs also since the mini fig was so tall the top of the glass cracked 8/10 also I put the wrong picture don’t know how to fix it

I honestly bought this kit just to add to my collection of navy fighters and was not expecting much in terms of its beauty and realism. I could not have been more wrong about my expectations for this plane. Cobi did an excellent job of making what was an ugly and rugged fighter in WW2 look like a masterpiece with wings. I am amazed by the detail of the landing gear and the way that they made the kits shape almost exactly like the real thing. The kit was relatively easy to assemble and came together well. Another success by Cobi. Keep up the good work.

I’ve bought 8WW2 planes and one USS enterprise aircraft carrier and I love them all. I also pre-ordered the Japanese aircraft carrier and I’ve noticed that they are out of stock. I was wondering when I might receive mine.
